About the Times of Chaos
What is the Times of Chaos, you ask? There is no easy way to describe what it is, but it might help to know the goal of the Times of Chaos: to provide a venue for anyone to present their ideas on any issue. Read the history of the Times for more information on its early development as an alternative student newspaper in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
Now, the Times of Chaos has transcended its paper-based, low-circulation origins, and has entered the realm of the Internet! I anticipate great things for this website, including an online forum and chat rooms where all members of the Internet community can discuss their views. In the future, an FAQ will be available here, so send me your questions! In the meantime, let me anticipate a few:
Q: Where does the Times of Chaos stand politically? Is it Democratic or Republican, left- or right-wing?
A: Officially, the ToC takes no position. It is merely a place for people to share their views.
Q: Well, then where do you stand politically?
A: I'm a Democrat by registration, on the left end of the political spectrum. But I do hold some views that are unusual for a leftist. You will be able to learn my views in greater detail as past and future issues of the Times begin to appear online, and in the forum and chat rooms, which I will be participating in avidly.
Q: Who are you, anyway? Who is behind all of this?
A: My name is Scott Beemer. I'm a 19-year-old resident of Pennsylvania currently attending college at Cornell University. I'll have a home page up soon (hopefully), with more information about myself and my interests. When I get it done, I'll put the URL here.
Q: Can anything be discussed on the Times of Chaos? Or only certain topics?
A: For now, I'll only set two restrictions: do not post anything profane, and do not post anything hateful. Since the whole idea of the Times of Chaos is to be a marketplace of ideas, it would be contrary to the purpose of the site to unduly restrict what goes on here. The limits that I set up are to avoid offending people where I can prevent this.
Q: When are all this going to happen?
A: Who knows? I've been very busy with schoolwork and other things. I'll say that the back issues and the forum will be online within a few months (as of 12-12-99).
